Presets Aren't For Me

Have you ever purchased a preset, especially one that you hear everyone rave about, and you just don't love it?!

In the beginning, I bought a ton of presets thinking that they were the answer and that I just needed to find the right one.

Boy was I WRONG!

I would find one that I loved on an image and I'd be so excited that I "found my style."

Then I'd try it on the next image and blah! I had no idea how to get it to look like I wanted.

This is completely frustrating! And maybe its been happening to you too.

One reason this happens is because every time you take a photo, the light is different. The colors are different. The environment is different. And perhaps you aren't shooting very consistently yet. Not to mention, that everyone has different preferences and styles.

How to Fix This

Stop buying presets!

I know it can be addicting and it's fun in pursuit of the shiny object. But until you learn how to edit, presets are not the answer.

And I hate to tell you this too, but once you learn how to edit, you won't like those presets anymore anyway!

You'll develop your own style for both shooting and editing and you'll know EXACTLY what you want when it comes to editing.

Photography is an art, and we all have our own canvases. This is what I love about photography! We can express ourselves in a way that makes us happy. Presets will never be the answer!

I know I'm not alone.

Literally as I was writing this, I stopped to check Facebook and you know what I saw? Someone asking what presets everyone hated. She stated that everyone always asks about what presets everyone loves but she wanted to hear what people hated so she could stay away. You'll never guess the responses!

Sorry to all the educators selling presets. I'm sure they are great. The problem is just that it's so hard to know which ones will match your style, if any.

Instead of selling my presets, I give them away!
